This topic can cover so many areas in everyone's life. So where do we start?
Let's start with baking ingredients. I don't know about you, but I love to bake! I also love to eat what I bake, so I have had to learn to make my treats as healthy as possible.
That means that my recipes are Gluten Free, Dairy Free and have a healthier version of sweeteners in them along with healthier fats. For starters, I do not use margarine or any fake butter. I do however use real butter, coconut oil, pure olive oil and nut butters for the fats in recipes. I do not use processed white sugars. I use organic sugar, stevia, small amounts of Truvia, Palm sugar aka coconut sugar and have recently tried organic Agave syrup. Honey is another option but is very sweet and high in calories, so only use a portion of what you would use in sugar. I completely avoid Sucralose and aspartame, as both of those cause me to have migraines. Then there is the wheat/gluten deal. I cannot touch gluten due to Celiacs Disease. Depending on the recipe, I will use a GF flour found in the health food section of most grocery stores, almond flour and/or I will use shredded zucchini. There are many other options, but those are a few of my go tos.
